NIMMSTA inspires Rewe Dortmund with significant process optimizations.
Every day, 250 tons of fresh goods are picked precisely and effectively.
At REWE Dortmund 's meat plant, up to 225 tons of meat are moved for retail every day and 25 tons of sausage are produced. To increase the efficiency of the picking processes, the company decided to use the NIMMSTA Smart Watch.
15%
More efficient order picking at Rewe Dortmund
The smart watches are used for order picking in the meat plant.
REWE Dortmund uses NIMMSTA Smart Watches in its meat plant to efficiently pick up to 250 tons of meat and sausages every day. The watches allow logistics staff to keep their hands free during the workflow, optimize picking performance with fast scans and offer a user-friendly application. With NIMMSTA, REWE Dortmund was able to reduce search times by up to 45 minutes per logistician per shift, resulting in an impressive saving of 270 hours or 15% per month. The smart wearables are robust and highly temperature-resistant.
Significantly lower wear and tear costs thanks to the Smart Watch's modular system
free hands and the high error minimization lead to further savings
the extremely low temperature in the meat processing plant has no effect on the Smart Watch
Our employees are very enthusiastic about the NIMMSTA Smart Watch and so am I - now that the watches have been in use for almost three years, we can say that we save an average of 5 seconds per scan. That is a sensational workflow optimization.
Free hands and high error minimization lead to major savings
The meat plant has to cope with an extremely high intralogistics effort. Every day, the site is supplied with pre-packaged meat products in Euro crates on pallets. Some of these are stored in a fully automated picking system and picked for around 400 stores. In total, up to 250 tons of meat and sausage are moved there every 24 hours.
In order to make the processes of the considerable volume of incoming goods and picking more efficient and smoother, the company was looking for a smart and small scan wearable, which had to fulfill the following two criteria: free hands during the processes so that the employees can grab the Euro crates immediately and which can withstand the temperatures in the meat plant permanently.
In January 2021, REWE Dortmund decided to use NIMMSTA smart watches, which fulfill both criteria. The integration was carried out smoothly according to the plug & play principle, which meant that the logistics specialists were able to work immediately. When picking with NIMMSTA, the touch display now shows the scanned barcodes and the watches report back whether the data has been correctly entered into the ERP system .
On the hardware side, the Smart Watch is available with two different scanning ranges: the Mid Range (MR) is ideal for distances of up to 4 meters and Standard Range (SR) up to 0.64 meters. REWE Dortmund uses the MR version, as a certain range is important for picking Euro crates.
Another advantage of the smart watch is that it weighs only 45 g. When worn, it is hardly noticeable on the back of the hand of the logistics staff at the meat plant. The Smart Watch manages 8,000 scan cycles and up to 4 scans per second. As over 3200 scans are carried out at the site every day, NIMMSTA greatly increases picking performance. Thanks to the long battery life, employees can work in multiple shifts without any problems. The battery is charged to 80% within 55 minutes.
The NIMMSTA watches are very robust and comply with the IP 65 standard. This was an important criterion, especially for the low temperatures in the meat plant. The Smart Watch can be used between 0 °C and 50 °C. The drop resistance of 1000 drops from 100 cm onto steel also confirms the high level of robustness.
The cooperation with REWE Dortmund was extremely professional and solution-oriented. We were able to quickly integrate the smart watches into the existing system. I am delighted with the great savings that REWE achieved with NIMMSTA after just a short time.
Direct replenishment and correction functions at the shelves increase process efficiency.
REWE Dortmund has been using NIMMSTA in its meat processing plant for almost three years now and has achieved sensational results. The most important requirement, that hands remain free during the work process, has been met to the complete satisfaction of the logistics staff. They are very enthusiastic about the simple and ergonomic application, says Mario Rittscher.
The search time has been reduced by up to 45 minutes per logistician per shift. For REWE, this represents a saving of 270 hours per month. The robustness of the Smart Watch is still impressive today: the low temperatures of 0 - 2 degrees Celsius in the meat plant have no effect on the functions of the device.
Our software analyses, controls and optimizes each work step in real time.
The individual steps for each task are displayed to the employee on the smart watch. Even in the desired language.
The LightTag provides visual support. It flashes and shows the worker the next step in a matter of seconds.
