About Fendt

Fendt is the high-tech brand in the AGCO Group and is known for innovative agricultural technology with the highest standards of quality, efficiency and sustainability. Around 100 tractors in a wide variety of configurations are produced every day at the main site in Marktoberdorf - individually assembled from over 1,475 customer options.

This enormous range of variants places the highest demands on logistics: each tractor is supplied with a precisely coordinated shopping basket containing up to 250 specific parts. In order not to interrupt the assembly flow, these parts must be available on the assembly line precisely, without errors and at the right time.

Field of application

The smartwatches are used for order picking in the company's own 'supermarket'.

Use Case

Fendt relies on digital worker guidance in order picking with the INDUTRAX DIGITALPICKER and the NIMMSTA Smart Watch. The aim was to replace paper-based processes and guide employees in the supermarket area efficiently and error-free through up to 250 picks per shopping cart. The ergonomic Smart Watch provides visual and acoustic feedback with every scan, ensures hands-free operation and enables a seamless, digital material flow. The result: shorter throughput times, reduced error rates and a noticeable reduction in employee workload - a scalable solution with a future.

Results

  • Greater efficiency: Significantly faster picking processes thanks to digital worker guidance with the NIMMSTA Smart Watch.

  • Error reduction: Visual and acoustic feedback reduces incorrect picking and ensures material quality.

  • Employee relief: Free hands, simple operation and less manual work increase ergonomics and satisfaction.

The challenge

Previously, logistics employees in the supermarket worked with paper-based processes: printed lists, manual shelf labeling and visual comparisons of material numbers caused unnecessary search times, double checks and a high susceptibility to errors, especially with similar part numbers or changing storage locations. The aim was to significantly reduce this effort through digital processes and at the same time relieve the burden on employees through intuitive worker guidance.

To achieve these goals, Fendt worked with INDUTRAX to introduce the DIGITALPICKER as a digital worker guidance system. The solution digitizes the entire picking process and forms the basis for efficient, paperless material provision in the supermarket area. The solution was combined with the NIMMSTA Smart Watch to ensure consistent, error-free implementation of the picking process.

The smart watches guide the logistics employees step by step through the picking process, visually via the touch display and at the same time acoustically and optically validating each scan. The employees have both hands free, which is an ergonomic advantage, especially with large and heavy parts.

The combination of the DIGITALPICKER and the NIMMSTA Smart Watch enables us to achieve end-to-end digital and error-free picking, which not only stabilizes the material flow but also noticeably reduces the workload for our employees.

Direct replenishment and correction functions at the shelves increase process efficiency.

The advantages in use

  • System-supported worker guidance: The next storage location, article number and pick quantity are shown directly on the Smart Watch display.

  • Direct validation: After the scan, the Smart Watch provides immediate feedback: green if correct, red if incorrect.

  • Both hands free: The scanner is ergonomically positioned on the back of the hand and is ideal for large-volume or heavy parts.

  • Time saving: media disruptions, such as handling paper lists or manually checking items, are completely eliminated.

  • The intuitive operation of the Smart Watch also allows new employees to get started quickly, without the need for lengthy training. At the same time, the entire process is fully documented digitally, which creates additional transparency and security.

Results

With the introduction of the Smart Watches, Fendt was able to noticeably increase the efficiency of order picking while simultaneously reducing the error rate.

Throughput times have been reduced, bottlenecks alleviated and process quality significantly improved. The full potential of the solution is particularly evident in the supermarket sector: faster, safer, paperless.

Outlook

Following the successful implementation in the area of parts provision, further applications are already under discussion. The modular architecture of the NIMMSTA solution makes it possible to seamlessly expand future processes - whether in incoming goods, assembly supply or inventory.

How does it work?

Our software analyses, controls and optimizes each work step in real time.

The individual steps for each task are displayed to the employee on the smart watch. Even in the desired language.

The LightTag provides visual support. It flashes and shows the worker the next step in a matter of seconds.
